Kayaking is one of our favourite activities at North Rodney Blue Light as we have been providing a fun and skilled based ‘flat water sheltered’ kayaking introduction program for the past 20 years.
Suitable age group: 7 years of age and above.
The 1 – 1.5 hour sessions ideally suit school and community groups camp rotations. Each group consists of a maximum of 10 students and several adults volunteers.
Where possible the instructor will travel to the group prior to the event and provide a safety interactive briefing.
The program uses a variety of locations including the Mangawhai Estuary, Tomarata Lake, Matakana River, Pakiri inlet, Tawharanui Lagoon, Whananaki and East coast beaches.
We transport and use mainly our fleet of ten single Frenzy and two double Malibu “sit on “kayaks at the above locations. At Mangawhai we have a set of “sit in” Otter kayaks. The kayaks are very stable and youth can sit, kneel and stand up safely. At other locations our van may be utilised to take students from the base to the water.
Our qualified instructor and organisation ensures safety is paramount. The kayaking activity is approved under the Health and Safety in Employment (Adventure Activities) 2011 legislation. Worksafe AAO Number 351.
The program has OutdoorsMark accreditation.
Activity and Venue Site Specific Plans are sent to groups for their acceptance and approval prior to the event.
