Programme Overview
The New Zealand Blue Light Leadership Voyage is designed to focus on giving young people the opportunity to experience life on the water. The voyage will focus on developing leadership skills, sailing skills, environmental learning, and teamwork. Young people will spend four nights onboard at a cost of $750 per person. Blue Light holds two Leadership Voyages annually onboard super yachts Lion NZ or Steinlager 2.
Participant’s criteria
The leadership Voyages are open to all 14- to 18- year-olds. Participants must be healthy and fit as some activities are physically demanding. However, you do not require prior sailing experience. The programme would ideally suit young people showing leadership qualities or who desire to grow their leadership skills. Leadership skills include team involvement, being confident amongst peers and groups of people, being able to communicate and being open to new ideas. Leadership voyages are designed to empower today’s youth to connect positively impact with their communities.
What to Expect on Board
On your five-day journey you’ll have the opportunity to be part of a team working and bunking aboard a super yacht, including put into practice reading the weather, planning the destination, and taking part in all the roles required to sail the boat. You’ll explore islands in the Hauraki Gulf, understand their unique history, and the important environmental role they play.
